Jayhawker. Jayhawkers is a term that originally applied to guerrilla fighters during the American Civil War in Kansas who often clashed with pro-slavery partisans, as well as Missouri militia units. The name was also used by or applied to some Kansas regular troops. It is in reference to the mythical Jayhawk. Today the term is applied to a native or resident of Kansas.
