Most likely when you disconnected the battery you cleared the G-Sensor and Steering Angle sensor calibrations. So they will both need to be reset. What I have seen on the xterra is the steering angle sensors out of adjust, this will turn on the lights. You will have to reset with the nissan scan tool, for center wheel adjustment setting.
